Day 26- The Penultimate Day and a Wonderful Visit
A day of firsts- my first day of riding on Manitoulin when I could see something (it's ruggedly pretty), my first ride on the Chi-Cheemaun (it was so foggy that there was little to do but sleep!), my first real time on the Bruce Peninsula (and I have lived in Ontario my whole life- shame on me!) and my first penultimate day of the trip. Last evening (or sometime before Murray, Wayne and Stan's bedtime of 8 pm) we were tossing around whether to wrap up the trip in 2 days or 3. We had about 50 k's still to do on Manitoulin and then about 260 k's from Tobermory to Kitchener so we decided we'd see how we felt when we got off the ferry and how far we decided to go. And if we made it far enough then we'd make the last push to get the trip done by Thursday.
We made it about 80 k's to Wiarton so the push is on. Only about 180 k's to go and if the wind isn't cruel we should be at our homes late in the afternoon!
My son, Adam, texted me Tuesday evening saying he was going to be keeping his son, Mason, home from JK and they'd see me at the ferry port in Tobermory. So it was really wonderful to see them, and Adam's girlfriend, waiting for the ship. We had a great visit and lunch together (thanks for buying Jelisa!) and then I set out to join up with the other guys.
The most challenging part of the day has turned out to be what route we're going to be taking to get back home. There are so many options that no matter where we turn all roads lead home.
So, one more day and one more post and it will be completed- the Turn it Around Tour and one big thing off the bucket list! Very cool!!!
