Day 17- If this is Monday it must be...

The plan for today was pretty simple- leave Stuartburn bright and early, cross into the US at Warroad, Minnseota, cycle for about 60 k's in the US and then get into Rainy River, On. for a total ride of around 180 k's. Things were going to plan- we made it to the border before noon, crossed with no problems (the border officers seem quite amused- or is that bewildered- when we tell them what we're doing) and cycled the 10 k's to Warroad. We had a nice lunch by the river and headed out for our 60 k ride to get into Ontario- our last province! The ride to Baudette, on the US side of where we cross, was great! The winds were behind us so we averaged well over 30 k/h. We crossed into Ontario without a problem. When we got there I checked my Blackberry to see where we were to be staying. The message I got said "we're still in Baudette. Don't go into Rainy River.". Well, since I had left Baudette and was in Rainy River, you could see how this message could cause a bit of consternation. I called James, our faithful chauffeur, to see what was up. He informed me that he and Murray (Murray took the afternoon off) had been to Rainy River only to find that the campground didn't have any washrooms or showers (2 "musts" for us) and there were no motel rooms to be had. So, they headed back to Baudette to see what they could find. You can imagine that a border guard could be somewhat concerned in having the same vehicle enter the US around 11, leave around 2 and then re-enter around 2:15. Sounds a bit suspicious, n'est-ce pas? Well, the border guard certainly thought so and proceeded to pull the vehicle, and its occupants, aside so that these suspicious individuals could be questioned at a more leisurely pace. Murray eventually satisfied the concerns and even got the border guard to show him a better route to get where we wanted to go (Duluth-Superior) and suggest a great campground to spend the night.
Murray having paved the way for Wayne and I to turn our bikes around and, like the truck and trailer, re-enter the US after being in Ontario for a few minutes, our crossing was uneventful. We had a lovely chat with the border guard, managed to avoid any cavity searches, and joined James and Murray at the campground.
Stan was a bit behind Wayne and I due to having to stop to get his water bottle that fell out of its holder and then get a flat tire, but he had to cross back and forth too!
The place we're staying is lovely and all is fine. And, we have a better route (a bit shorter and fewer hills). See what can happen when you have more good fortune than brains. And as I said, we really had a good plan and it seemed so simple!
