Day 6- The day we Cheated

Well, cheated is not exactly correct. After all, we have done all the k's that we're supposed to but for a part of today's journey we weren't under our own steam. We were on a ferry (the Osprey 2000) crossing Kootenay Lake. The ferry is still on the winter schedule which means it only runs every hour and 20 minutes. And, wouldn't you know it but we were 10 minutes late and had to wait for the next ferry. So, we toughed it out by eating baked goods and drinking coffee (at least the unrefined of us did) or tea for an hour and 10 minutes. Talk about a tough day!
We biked along Kootenay Lake for most of today. To state the obvious, its a long lake! And since we were along side the lake, and since lakes are generally flat (unless there are really big waves!) we didn't do any significant climbing today. What a nice change!
We were talking over dinner this evening and discovered we have only 2 full days left in BC! Wow- that's gone quickly and we have done really well!
And speaking of supper, we had fresh grilled salmon, fresh grilled asparagus and potatoes and onions done on the barbie in foil. Just one more example of how we're toughing it out on the trip. No sacrifice is too big for us and raising money for the charities!
It's about 8:30 and 3 of the 4 cylcists are already in bed- and I don't mean reading or doing something productive!! No, they're actually going to sleep! Can you believe it?! Glad I'm not old like those other guys! Maybe they've been lulled to sleep by the sound of the rushing waters from the river that's nearby our camp site. It's really a great spot. If you're ever looking for a nice campground in this area (we're in Creston) stop at the Mountain Park Resort. And tell them that the 4 crazy cyclists biking from White Rock to Kitchener sent you. They'll likely give you a discount out of pity for hanging around people as crazy as us!

  1. After being scared away by bears camping at Waterton Lakes NP, we headed west, took the same ferry and camped just south at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park (which you would have passed on the way to the ferry). Best camping ever. Highlight was just north at Ainsworth Hot Springs. Remember the trip well some 20 years ago; hope you're enjoying the scenery as much as we did. Go east, old men!

  2. I recall passing that park- we spoke of Kokanee beer as we passed! Is that the place that has the best washrooms?
